PBS Group Supports Leidos in Enhancing Security Screening at Punta Cana International Airport

Upgraded checkpoint technology across all eight Terminal B lanes strengthens threat detection and improves passenger throughput as traffic at one of the Caribbean's busiest airports continues to grow.

PUNTA CANA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC — July 17, 2026

PBS Group, acting as local implementation partner to Leidos, has supported the modernization of security screening operations at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), one of the busiest airports in the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic's leading gateway for global tourism.

Over the past three years, flight activity at PUJ has climbed from approximately 80 to nearly 130 flights per day, with annual passenger traffic rising more than 34% to roughly 11 million passengers. Anticipating this growth, PUJ selected Leidos in 2022 to upgrade its aviation security screening capabilities, with PBS Group providing on-the-ground deployment and operational support.

Modernizing the checkpoint experience

With PBS Group's support, PUJ upgraded all eight security checkpoints in Terminal B with an integrated suite of screening technologies, including Leidos ProVision 2 millimeter-wave body scanners, ProPassage automated tray returns systems, and ClearScan computed tomography (CT) baggage scanners.

Together, the technologies enhance threat detection while streamlining checkpoint operations and increasing passenger throughput. Passengers also benefit from a more convenient screening process, as approved liquids and electronics can now remain inside carry-on baggage.

“We are pleased with the results and performance of our checkpoint since deploying these new systems. Our operations are running smoothly, and we can provide a more seamless experience for passengers.”

Expanding threat detection

PUJ also sought to enhance baggage screening capabilities beyond traditional explosives detection to identify additional threats such as narcotics, pills, and undeclared currency.

To support this objective, Leidos integrated advanced artificial intelligence algorithms into the ClearScan platform. By combining multiple detection algorithms with SeeTrue AI from Israel, the system can identify a broader range of prohibited and illicit items with greater speed and precision.

The technology automatically diverts and flags suspect baggage for additional inspection, helping security personnel respond more effectively while minimizing disruptions to checkpoint flow.

Enterprise management

To further optimize checkpoint operations, PUJ deployed ProSight, the Leidos enterprise software platform for aviation security operations.

ProSight integrates screening equipment, threat detection algorithms, and third-party systems into a centralized, cybersecurity-managed system that delivers real-time operational visibility and performance reporting.

PUJ plans to use ProSight to remotely monitor checkpoints from a centralized control room, improving resource allocation across all eight screening lanes.

“Our team is very satisfied with ProSight, and we look forward to using more of its features to truly maximize the benefits of real-time data and reporting.”

Built for future growth

As passenger traffic continues to grow, Punta Cana International Airport is positioned to meet increasing operational demands without compromising security or the traveler experience.

By investing in advanced security technology, intelligent threat detection, and centralized operational management, PUJ is building a scalable security infrastructure capable of supporting current needs and future growth — establishing a model for other airports across Latin America and the Caribbean seeking to modernize their own operations.
